‘I’ll seek re-election for 5th term as Tamale South MP’ – Haruna

Minority Leader and Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, has formally announced that he will seek re-election in 2020 to continue to represent the people of the area in the country’s legislature.

He said “I cherished the opportunity to have served you for these years and I will cherish some additional opportunity in terms of prolonging my service to the people of Ghana and Tamale South Constituency as MP. Therefore, come 2020, I will run formally as MP for Tamale South.

He added that “So this should bring to rest all the speculation about Haruna’s political future. The other part of my future is in God’s hands.”
Mr Iddrisu announced his re-election bid on Friday when he inaugurated a rural electrification project at Tangni, a community in the Tamale South Constituency.

The extension of electricity to the Tangni community means that all communities in the Tamale South Constituency are now connected to the national grid, a pledge by the MP, which had been fulfilled.

Mr Iddrisu, who is currently serving his fourth consecutive term as MP for Tamale South, also served in three different Cabinet Ministerial portfolios as Minister for Communications, Trade and Industry, and Employment and Labour Relations from 2009 to January, 2017, and winning the 2020 Parliamentary elections will make him a fifth term MP.

He thanked the constituents, saying “I hold the mandate to serve the people of Tamale South with humility and dignity and dedicated service. I want to use this opportunity to profoundly thank the people of Tamale South, they remain a tower of strength to me and unwavering support.”

He dared anyone wishing to challenge his re-election bid, saying “I am sure any candidate within the NDC and without the NDC to the New Patriotic Party can only await a humiliating befitting defeat if they dare want to run for the seat, but naturally, I am a consummate democrat, we are open to competition.”

Akufo-Addo, Bawumia Boys & Girl ‘Fight’ One Another Over NPP Northern Region Parliamentary Seats



The Northern Region of Ghana is set to witness one of its fiercest contest for parliamentary seats on the ticket of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) as young CEOs, Deputy Ministers, top state companies’ executives prepare to battle over their parliamentary ambitions, has uncovered.

The eight names who have confirmed interest in various seats in the region include Deputy Minister of Energy Mohammed Amin Anta; COCOBOD’s Deputy Procurement boss Farouk Aliu Mahama, Deputy Chief of Staff Samuel Abu Jinapor; Deputy MASLOC Boss Abibata Shanni Mahama Zakaria, National Petroleum Authority boss Hassan Tampuli; National Service boss Mustapha Ussif. More names include Habib Iddrisu one of the Deputy Directors at the Free Zones Board and Alhassan Yakubu Tali, a Deputy Managing Director of Agricultural Development Bank.

Though the party is yet to officially outdoor its timetable for the parliamentary primaries throughout the country, it has been established that interested parties are working seriously to ensure that they become the favourite of delegates in order to be voted for as parliamentary candidates.

So far, 8 persons including a Deputy Minister of State, a Deputy Chief of Staff and some government appointees are seen fronting in various constituencies to win the support of traditional rulers, opinion leaders as well as party people in a bid to smoothen their path to victory.

Prominent among persons seeking to contest seats in the region include Samuel Abu Jinapor who is the Deputy Chief of Staff and whose elder brother is the former Deputy Minister of Power and Member of Parliament for Yapei-Kusawgu, John Abdulai Jinapor.

It is an open secret that Mr. Jinapor is eyeing the Damongo seat considering the kinds of investments he has committed to the area including donations to identifiable groups, party people and institutions in the last two years.

Our investigations uncovered Mr. Jinapor may face stiffer competition as another candidate who claims to be a ‘homeboy’ has emerged promising to give him a run for his money. It is believed the Junior Jinapor is avoiding the option of having to compete against his elder brother who currently holds the Yapei-Kusawgu seat.

Another area which is of interest is the Karaga Constituency where the Deputy Minister of Energy Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam is lacing his boots to contest as the parliamentary candidate.

The former Tamale mayor has twice contested as parliamentary candidate for Tamale Central Constituency and lost to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) professor Wayo Seini and Alhaji Inusah Fuseini in 2004 and 2008 respectively.

Vigilante Abdallah Gunu Appointed NPP PMC Chairman

Vibrant communicator, Abdallah Gunu (Vigillant Gunu) has been appointed Chairman of the Publicity and Media Committee (PMC) of the youth wing of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Northern Region.

The committee was inaugurated by the party regional Youth Organizers, Mohammed Alhassan Ghana Wednesday, 19th December 2018 in Tamale.

The PMC is one of the eight working committees of the youth wing and a very important arm of the Youth Wing.

The Committee is responsible for carrying out youth related activities of the party. These includes; field trips to the various constituencies across the region to disseminate supervise youth related activities of the party.

Mr. Alhassan Ghana after the inauguration ceremony expressed optimism that the committee will deliver its mandate.

“I was overwhelmed by the readiness and commitment of our gallant party guys to deliver on the objectives of youth wing and the party as a whole,” he noted.

He charged the Vigillant Abdullah Gunu Committee to remain focus and steadfast to keep in touch with the youth of party in all constituencies in the region.

He also assured the committee of all the necessary support and machinery it requires in their work.

On his part, Vigillant Abdullah Gunu thanked the Mr Alhassan Ghana for reposing confidence in him to stear the activities of the party’s youth wing in the region.

Mr. Gunu his address indicated his commitment together with other members to deliver for the party in the Northern Region.

He said; “Commander Ghana Alhassan thank you for the confidence repose in me to Chair and Lead the Publicity and Media Commitee of the Youth Wing of Npp. The team is an embodiment of great talents and we would gladly deliver, InshaAllah.”

About Abdullah Gunu (Vigilante)

Born 19th November in the mid 1980s in Savelugu, Abdullah Gunu is the younger brother of Hon. Samed Gunu, the Member of Parliament for the Savelugu Constituency (siting MP).

He a product of the Business Senior High School (Bisco) from between the 2004-07 academic year group.

He furthered his eduction as a teacher trainee at the Bagagaba Training Collage (BATCO) in Tamale before his pursued BSc Business Administration (Accounting).

Mr. Gunu is a founding member of Tescon-BATCO (Bagabaga Training Collage) chapter and a former Tescon Communication officer for University of Ghana branch.

Seidu Fiter Applauds GhOne TV For ‘Sacking’ NPP Comm. Chief

A regional communications member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Northern Region, Dr. Seidu Fiter has applauded GhOne TV turning away Mohammed Issah, the Northern Regional Communications Director of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The event attracted massive outrage within the ruling party as others including the Mayor of Tamale, Musah Superior calling on the party to boycott the station.

Mr. Issah is said to have been sacked from the GhOne studios at the Platinum Place in Accra, Monday morning when he turn out to represent the NPP for the new paper review segment. 

Reasons for his ‘sacking’ is not readily known as the Chief Communicator within the last 24 hours has been subjected to various trolls on Social Media (SM) by some elements of the opposition NDC. 

One of such person is Dr Seidu Fiter who referred to Mr. Issah as unfit for such big platforms.

He wrote with the caption below;

“Be your own angel I am not part, we can be friends for whatever reason but when it comes to politics I won’t compromise my own party chances for yours. Much respect to GHOne TV”
